We get it, staying inside all the time due to quarantine was not how we were planning on spending our last months of this semester either. While social distancing rules are being lifted, we are all still being encouraged to stay inside unless we really need to go out. This has led to a lot of time at home. The thing about staying home is things can get real cluttered real quick, but we want to help you combat that!

The common question is, “Where do I even begin with organizing my space?”
This is why we have come up with 5 easy and quick ways you can declutter your home and help yourself feel more motivated!
1. Declutter your bathroom countertop
This is usually one of the first places you come to after you wake up in the morning. Make sure it is a stress-free place where you easily find what you need! This can be a huge way to help your mornings be smoother because you are not having to search for everything you need.
Make sure to throw away any old products and organize what you are keeping into containers to ensure easy access.
2. Remove papers that are in a pile
Do you have a stack of papers somewhere in your house that you just keep moving around because you don’t want to go through it? For me this stack tends to always end up on my kitchen counter and is always in the way when I need to cook. Take this time to go through that stack!
Separate the papers into a trash, file and action needed section. This allows you to break it down into a more manageable task and ensures that you are not forgetting something important!
3. Go through your fridge and freezer
We know you probably stocked your fridge when quarantine began, but our guess is a lot of that food is no longer any good. Go through your fridge and freezer and throw out and expired foods!
A tip for knowing how long leftovers have been in the fridge is keep a role of masking tape and a marker in the kitchen, place a strip of tape on your leftover container and put the date it was put in the fridge on it! This tip has saved me so many times from either eating food that has gone bad or throwing out something that could have been eaten on for another day!
4. Make your bed
We hear this one over and over, but it is because it is so true! Having a made bed sets your day on the right track. You have already accomplished something early on in the day it will encourage you to complete more tasks throughout the day!
A great bonus of making your bed is it deters you from getting back into it before it is time to go to sleep.
5. Minimize the objects on your desk
Having a clear workspace keeps you focused on the task at hand and keeps you from becoming overwhelmed. To ensure a tidy desk keep only what you are working on at that time on the desktop. File everything else into containers or drawers. This leads me to my next step which is to invest in organization tools! Finally, we all know that our workspaces are not going to stay clear all of the time, so designate on time in your week to clean up your desk!
Take this unexpected time at home that we have been given not to be sad that you have been stuck inside, but instead finding productive ways to improve your daily life!
